I did not always agree with Mr. Buckley, but I thoroughly enjoyed his columns in our local PNJ, and a variety of papers and magazines I read over the years. He knew how to disagree without being disagreeable. He lifted conservatism into a finely honed arguement, but it was an arguement of ideas, not personalities.
His last presentation of the TV show Firing Line was taped (or broadcast live?) from the campus of Ole Miss, when I lived there in Oxford, MS. I regret not going to the show to see that bit of history and to see Mr. Buckley in person.
Buckley's novels were excellent. I think I will look on my shelves for one or more of them to reread it in his memory. His son, Christopher, is the funniest political novelist writing today.
We need more men like Buckley. All of our political discourse shoudl be about ideas, not personalities.

Years ago I really enjoyed his book Airborne. I am also a sailor and it was a neat book.
