Mission Trip background information

Several members have asked me about Merida, Mexico and the mission trip Northminster is participating in. Merida is the capital of Yucatan State in Mexico (highlighted on the map).

We're going with Presbyterians from Mobile and South Alabama Presbytery. Here is a link to the presbytery's mission trips web site.

Here is a link to a tourist web site for Merida.

It is a 3-hour flight from Houston to Merida on Continental Airlines; the price was reasonable. I will try to post information about the hotel, our Presbyterian hosts in Mexico, and the church in Uman that we work with. I hope I can post to this blog during the trip, but we'll see.

Happy Independence Day

We Americans are indebted to the Great Men of 1776, the Founding Fathers in the 2nd Continental Congress who dared revolt against the unjust King.

During this week of Independence Day it is worth remembering the words of Jefferson's great Declaration. You may click here to see them; read them slowly, it is worth the time.

Remember -- One Service July 1

On Sunday, July First, there is one worship at 11:00am; it follows Sunday School at 9:40am. There is a congregational meeting after that one service.

Northminster is located at 1100 E. Nine Mile Road in Pensacola, FL.

Presbytery Float Trip

This is part of our group at the beginning of the trip.

Here are 4 of our number, and Allen from Gulf Breeze in the back.

Over sixty people from across the presbytery, including 15 from Northminster, floated down the Chipola River on canoes and tubes.

Fun and Faith Days pictures

The Dance at Fun and Faith

I wish my little camera had sound.

A Marvelous Weekend

Fun and Faith Days were fantastic! So many members stepped up as leaders. They sewed costumes, made sets, wrote the play, taught art and music, and much, much more. Men and women stepped up as Tribal Leaders for our groups. I am profoundly greatful to all who made Fun and Faith Days a great education and worship event for the church.

Heifer International

A woman in Guatemala with her Heifer provided goat, which she keeps in a zero grazing pen. She brings fodder to the goat so it gives lots of good milk without roaming and destroying the fragile ecosystem.

We are raising money to give a goat and a sheep to hungry families so they may feed themselves. Please click below to see the Heifer web site to learn more. Northminster will be receiving gifts to Heiffer for the rest of the summer, or you may click on the links and give directly to their organization. http://www.heifer.org/
